FAQ

Questions faculty ask.

Who can get the Student plan?

Anyone enrolled with a school email address. We email a link to that address and the plan opens once it's clicked. .edu addresses and academic domains like .ac.uk go straight through; other school domains are checked by hand within one business day. Personal addresses (Gmail, iCloud and so on) can't be used.

What's the difference between Student and Classroom?

Student is one person's own account, $12/mo or $99/yr, paid by the student. Classroom is one shared workspace the instructor runs, up to 50 seats for $1,500/yr, paid by the school. On Classroom, students don't pay anything.

Is the faculty account really free?

Yes. A verified instructor gets the full studio with 20 tech pack drafts a month at no cost, for your own projects and for trying Runsheet before bringing it to a class. It doesn't expire while you're teaching.

How does the school pay?

By invoice, once a year, net 30. We'll accept a purchase order and fill in your vendor forms. The workspace can be switched on as soon as we have the PO, so you don't need to wait for payment to start the term.

What if we have more than 50 students?

Extra seats on a Classroom license are $30 per student per year. The Department license covers up to 250 seats and 5 faculty admins for $4,500/yr, which is cheaper once you pass about 150 students.

Do seats carry over between terms?

Yes. At the end of a term you remove last term's students in Account → Team and invite the new class. The license is for the year, not per cohort.

What are tech pack drafts?

Runsheet drafts a tech pack from a sketch, photo or description; each draft uses one Token. Students then edit it like any tech pack. Student accounts get 5 a month, a Classroom gets 200 a month shared across the class. Tech packs written by hand don't use Tokens at all.

Can students contact factories?

Students can browse the whole directory. Introduction requests from a school email come to us first; we pass them on with a short note that it's a student project, so factories know what to expect and keep saying yes to students.

Can students use it for paid work?

The Student plan is for coursework and portfolios. Freelance or brand work belongs on Pro-Studio, and graduates get 50% off their first year of it.

Does anything need to be installed?

No. Runsheet runs in the browser on Mac, Windows and Chromebook. There's nothing for IT to deploy.

What happens to student data?

Student work stays in your school's workspace. We don't sell data or show ads. If your school needs a data agreement reviewed or signed, send it to us and we'll go through it.

Can I see it before committing?

Yes: open the live demo (no sign-up), or create your free faculty account and use it on a project of your own. We're also happy to run a 20-minute walkthrough for you or your class.
